Look Imperail is one of the Top 10 Universities in the UK - but Imperial generates only a small number (albeit high calibre) of gradutaes each year. The UK can not survive economically on Imperial graduates alone.

The expansion of the our HE sector is one of our success stories in the past 25 years.

My own University has gone from 11,000 students to 33,000 students in 20 years - it is a Top 10 UK Uni and in the World Top 100.

We need more people that create wealth I think that we need more engineers, scientists. teachers/educators and innovators/entrepreneus.

And less people that leach off wealth - and I don't mean the public sector but lawyers, bankers, accountants and consultants etc!

I see our major competitors having a greater proportion of their workforces (towards 50% and beyond) with degree level qualifications and skills.

HIgher Education does not just prepare people for the employment market it also changes peoples lives - provides new experiences and challenges people's assumptions about the world around them...

China and India are producing 4 million graduates between them EVERY SINGLE YEAR!
