Wes' argument is based on arguing that it's somehow 'unrealistic' to demand a return to free education, as if the world has moved on and such things can never happen again -- when devolution means it's happening just across the border all the while! It's a complete capitulation to something that really could be changed, if we were militant enough about it... put 1p on corporation tax and there you go, bye-bye top-up fees.
