Education is now free in Scotland. That means it can be done. That means people can make it be on offer - as NUS Scotland did.
It is also free in a raft of European states - Denmark, Holland, Sweden come to mind. Probably more.
It is fully achievable. We need to set the agenda for it.
Any trade unionist can tell you that in negotiations you need to lobby of course, but you also need a response if your boss doesn't agree.
By praising the Labour government, Wes has got rid of our response.
But whichever poster it was is right when they say we cannot simply blame Wes for this - Conference voted.
This reflects badly on the left opposition who too many students did not see as credible. What I wonder is where are the Lib Dems, the SNP, the Greens, the Plaids? all these parties support free education, yet they are not involved in fighting for it in the NUS - leaving a false dichotomy of new labour suck up or revolutionary trot.
