Dear Dave
Thank you for your email in response to my Executive Questions. However, not all the questions I asked were responded to. I would like to point out that it is now more than two weeks since I asked these questions, and therefore, I believe, beyond the constitutional limit on the amount of time for a full time officer to reply. A speedy reply to my questions would therefore be much appreciated.
The questions which have not been responded to are as follows:
3. If the decision to charge for NUS Democracy Cards was made in a meeting then what and when was the meeting, who was present, and who voted for the NUS Democracy Card to be charged for? Where can I get copies of the minutes of any such meeting?
4. What considerations were taken into account when deciding to charge for the NUS Democracy Cards? Did these considerations include the decisions of NUS Annual Conferences in 2005, 2006 and 2007 to maintain a Democracy Card free to members and unions, and the lack of a subsequent decision made by a Conference to the contrary?
5. Why was the decision to charge for the NUS Democracy Card made despite 3 consecutive Conferences requiring that the NUS Democracy Card remain free?
In your responses to questions 4 and 5, could you please comment on the following resolution from Annual Conference 2006, which clearly states that the NUS Democracy Card will be free to SUs (something which the current NUS decision to charge for NUS Democracy Cards clearly contradicts):
2. Alongside any ‘paid for’ card there must be a free democracy card avaliable to all SUs denoting membership to the individual unions, that will be made available to all member unions.
In your previous comments you made no reference to this, and other, relevant policies. You also ignore the fact that many SUs will need to pass on their costs to students.
Thank you again for your response, and I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Stephen Knight
