What you don't have is entertainment columns poking fun at the victims for this happening to them. True, there's no way anyone would do this when the case was murder, but I have heard moderately seriously cases reported as the "And Finally" story.

What, like this one? (note the category "Oddly Enough" and the other stories it contains)

But I get the feeling we could throw links demonstrating failure to take domestic violence seriously back and forth all week - I think we've both made our points.

But I fear that when it's violence of women against men, society may be putting an additional barrier to coming forward in place: go to the Police, and you might get laughed at.

I don't disagree that this is a possibility, but I don't think it's an *additional* barrier - it's one that women have to deal with too.

From the British Crime Survey 2004-5 (via Women's Aid)
# In 30% of domestic violence incidents reported to the police, no action is taken.
# In a further 38% of cases, they give a warning, only.
# On average, 26% of reported incidents results in arrest - and just over a quarter of these lead to a charge (7% of all reported incidents.)
That doesn't seem to be "taking it seriously" when you consider that on average about 35 assaults take place before it's reported.

Seems that society has a along way to go in a whole range of areas.

No argument whatsover!
