I think it (along with much else) is legitimate for informed discussion but not for policy making. If informed discussion can take place at fringe events at conference - great.
The distinction:
Informed debate on the greatest artists in history would be a worthwhile discussion (as it is educational!) but spending time making policy on it and actually voting in a top 10 would be wrong and waste of conference time.
We could likewise have discussions on the sciences and the relative benefits to society of various inventions or various lines of research.
This is all great for students to discuss but... it's not what Student Poletics in the UK shoudl be about and the conference floor IS UK Student Poletics.
