Nice try. When you stand for a position where your job is to be imprtial, you often waive your rights to express your own opinions. When I was NPC Chairperson, I quite often had to keep my opinions to myself, especially when there was an important vote coming up in the next few weeks. If the people who are suppose to ensure a fair and balanceed debate are shouting their opponents down, how can the debate be fair?

To be fair to Habiba, she is just one of eight members of Steering Committee, and what she says is unlikely to be interpreted as NUS Steering forcing their views on Conference. Also, I have seen far worse cases of Steering members abusing their positions (and, may I add, UJS have been one of the worst culprits) and NEC members speaking on behalf of their students whilst ignoring what they actually voted for. But I don't accept that differing opinions excuses ignoring the people you represent. If you really want to put your own opinions before everything else, you should not have stood for that position in the first place.
