that person would indeed be vilified, unfortunately we are still in the position that society will not accept racism/islamaphobia/anti-semitism etc but takes no effective measures to prevent or punish homophobia. Only recently i listened to a high ranking politician within the council of europe say that homophobia shouldnt be included in an international anti-discrimination campaign. hmmn inspiring.
Outrage, like many queer activism groups denounce all homophobia- for too often people hide behind the shield of religion (especially as rob says- people are empty vessels)for many hate crimes. If i stood in my union and said there should be no representation (which i wouldnt for starters) for black or muslim students on council- i would be vilified and perhaps even loose my own position. But i listen to open calls to get rid of LGBT representation, and is it treated of equal importance? No. The argument i am presented with is that 'it goes against my religion'. Very well (i'll spare u may religion speel)but in 2006 when racism is taken seriously why should we differentiate between discrimination forms? No there may not be a unitary fight against all oppressions but perhaps there should be a unitary approach to tackling them.
