Tonight at an emergency meeting of council, Glasgow University's Student's Representative Council brought forward a motion to hold a referendum on the 15th of Novemeber 2006 regarding the possibility of affiliating to the NUS. The motion itself was an amended version of that passed last year. However, it crucially allows the SRC to officially note that "NUS affiliation would be detrimental to the students and SRC of Glasgow University" at the same time as supporting the right of students to have their say.

This brave move and positive endorsement of the Glasgow split system has the support of the Glasgow University Sports Association and the two students Unions, the Glasgow University Union and the Queen Margaret Union.
