NUS Conference Special
A full set of reports on the annual farce
|
 |
This week 26th-29th March, under 1000 delegates from Universities, Schools and Colleges meet in Blackpool for the annual NUS conference. This was the smallest NUS conference for over twenty years, making it all too easy for the Labour Leadership of the Union to retain control and force its will upon the policy debates. You won't be surprised that given this, Labour and their 'slightly independent' cronies swept the board in all but one of the elections for the six full-time officers, and managed to stifle debate on the subjects which students on the ground would expect them to have passed as a matter of course.
Presidential Election
¬Helen Aspell, victim of a hate campaign at NUS conference.
Instead of electing someone who would go that but further to fight for students, conference opted to retain the Labour Stooge, sorry the "Totally Independent- honest guv", NUS President Owain James.

The message from NUS conference was 'No to Privatisation'. That's privatisation in the Health Service by the way. It'll only be a problem if Hague does it through the front door. If Blair does it round the back, (PFI, PPP, etc) they don't mind.
